Daniel Parasky is a professionally trained flutist whose passion lies within teaching private flute lessons. He is on the faculty of both the Newlonsburg Music Academy (Pittsburgh East) and the P.Y.C.O. School of Music (Pittsburgh North). The Parasky Flute Studios opened its’ doors in September 1999 and has since produced multiple award winning students. The following auditions have featured studio winners/finalists: The International Flute Symposium at West Virginia University, The Consummate Flutists at Carnegie Mellon University, The National Flute Association Competitions including the High School Soloist, High School Flute Choir, Collegiate Flute Choir and the Professional Flute Choir Competition; the Bands of America Rose Bowl Honors Marching Band and the Macy’s Great American Marching Band. Additionally, several students have had the privilege to perform in concert with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra on international tours. Studio members also consistently perform, place and win at local and regional auditions/music festivals. Graduates of the Parasky Flute Studios have moved on to study music in college at the undergraduate and graduate level in order to start their own full-time careers in music.
As a musician, Mr. Parasky is in demand as a soloist, chamber musician, clinician and guest conductor. He is also a new music enthusiast with several commissions and multiple World Premieres performed. Solo engagements feature recital programs with diverse repertoire from all musical time periods. As a chamber musician, he co-founded the PM Woodwind Project (www.pmwoodwindproject.com), a flute and clarinet duo that is dedicated towards educational outreach for both the non-professional and professional music community.
As a clinician, Mr. Parasky has presented a wide range of topics at the National Flute Convention, The Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair and at local colleges in and around Pittsburgh. Topics range from the pedagogical and business components to studying and teaching the flute in addition to performance themed classes. Mr. Parasky was the guest conductor for the 2014 Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir and serves the National Flute Association as the Competition Coordinator for the High School Flute Choir Competition.
Dan graduated from Boston University with a Masters of Music in Music Education (4.0 GPA) and earned an undergraduate degree (cum laude) in Music Performance from Duquesne University where he studied with Damian Bursill-Hall. His formative years of training were completed with Wendy Webb Kumer. Mr. Parasky serves the National Flute Association as the Competition Coordinator for the High School Flute Choir (2014-2019), he serves the Pittsburgh Flute Club as the website coordinator and is on the Board of Directors for the Newlonsburg Music Academy as the administrator.
